5 Home Businesses That Make Money While You're Away
5 Home Businesses That Make Money While You're Away
Though it is a common practice these days, not everyone knows how to get a business to make money without constant hands-on involvement, and that is where a good franchisor with a successful home based business comes into play. If you’re interested in profiting from a home business that’s working even when you’re not, here are 5 good franchise options to get you going.
Rocket Vending
Just what you might expect to start off such a list, Rocket Vending is a candy vending business. However, this may not be the kind of candy operation that the average person would anticipate. Selling mints from bright pink, decorative machines, Rocket Vending franchisees are the only candy vendors that use a part of their proceeds to contribute to various breast cancer organizations. In their words, they’re "vending with a conscience." And in the end, that pays off for both the franchisees and charities, because buyers often purchase candy just to support the cause, even if they would have had no interest in the product otherwise.
Vehicle Tracking Solutions
Though a good deal of this business is built on initial sales, which obviously requires the presence of the franchisee, there is also a steady stream of secondary income that, in the right quantities, could prove to be enough to sustain a franchisee through dry times of business or while on vacation. One of the only suppliers of its kind, Vehicle Tracking Solutions sells GPS tracking equipment to clients for their corporate automobile fleets. But initial sales is only the first stream of income. The second stream comes by client use of the Vehicle Tracking Solutions web-based mapping and historical reporting systems, which requires a paid subscription. Franchises therefore continue to make money even when they aren’t selling products to new clients.
TVME
Similar in form to Vehicle Tracking Solutions, TVME sees the majority of its profits coming in by way of initial sales but also has that secondary stream of income that flows in from client subscription to the company narrowcast. The TVME product is a computerized media center that grants access to over 450,000 songs and virtually all music videos created over the last 40 years. Perfect for bars, restaurants, and other food and entertainment industry locations, this system provides instant access to everything media.
Love Maine Lobster Claw
One of the more interesting vending franchise options available, this franchise business combines an arcade claw-game machine with a lobster tank, allowing shoppers to try their luck at grabbing a live lobster with a joystick-controlled claw for the low, low cost of $2 a try. As with any other vending machine, by nature of the business, the franchisee doesn’t have to be present in order to make a sale, and sales can still be quite impressive. Because people are so intrigued by the machine, and the game is so difficult to control, one machine is capable of making $750 per week, which is completely unlike any other vending operation.
DVDNow
Another vending operation, this work from home franchise also takes a different angle on the now-classic business of vending, distributing rental DVDs instead of candy. Slowly cropping up around the US, this business yet has little competition because the concept is still only a few years old. By renting out movies from automated kiosks, convenient location and much cheaper prices draw in more clients that are increasingly fed up with making the trip to a video store just to pay a higher rental fee. And franchises, who work at home, continue to make money from their machines even when they take a little break from the labor.
There are plenty of ways to make a good income, and many of those are franchises, but there are only so many options to make a continuing stream of income even when you aren’t around. This, of course, is not to say that any of these businesses come without a good deal of effort, because any business requires hard work to succeed. But because you never know what life may throw at you, and there are always those times that you need to stop and take a breather, it’s good to know that your home business can make money even when you’re away.

In general, money can only be made where there is some kind of a person-to-person exchange of goods or services for cash. However, there are some franchise business opportunities that bring in profit even when the franchisee isn’t there to make the transaction. Though, at one time, that might have been a revolutionary concept, today automated businesses are everywhere, turning profits on everything from vended sodas to online gaming, all while the owner is expanding the business, taking on new business endeavors, or maybe just kicking back with a cocktail and one of those little drink umbrellas.
Though it is a common practice these days, not everyone knows how to get a business to make money without constant hands-on involvement, and that is where a good franchisor with a successful home based business comes into play. If you’re interested in profiting from a home business that’s working even when you’re not, here are 5 good franchise options to get you going.
