Favorite Small Business Franchises For The Techie

Times have certainly changed. Computer technology has become so powerful and such a predominant part of daily living, it’s somewhat hard to imagine those archaic days before the PC. We communicate on computers, shop on computers, and even do business on computers. Most of us know how near and dear computers are to life today; for many of us, they are our primary source of income. And, sadly, many of us don’t have the first clue how our computers actually work, so if and when they fail, we’re in trouble, and there’s really nothing we can do about it on our own.

Fortunately, there are people out there who know a whole lot more about computers than the average person does, and can actually maintain and repair them when they break down. In layman’s terms, we refer to them as "techies." They’re a most helpful class of people who have plenty of business opportunities, either working for someone else or running their own operation, offering their necessary services to the world. If you’re a techie hoping to step out from under the rule of an employer and start your own small business, look no further. Here is a list of small-business franchise opportunities that are right up your alley.

Obviously, the business sector is where the biggest computer needs and the biggest money are. If addressing computer, network, and internet business issues on a corporate scale is what you’re looking to do, here are the best choices for you.

Because smaller businesses don’t have the resources to hire their own in-house tech teams to address software and hardware needs, they require outside intervention when trouble inevitably does strike their system. And who do they call? The perfect middle-ground between trusted local business and reputable national establishment, Computer Troubleshooters is perhaps the best pick. Franchisees with this small-business franchise respond quickly and professionally, sending acclaimed technicians from the central agency right to the door of the business in need.

Not all tech problems that a company needs to address are hardware- and software-related, though. Some issues that arise involve the proper and most effective joining of technology and business, for instance, establishing how the internet can best be used to serve clients. This is where two other small business opportunities enter the picture: eSpider Squad and WSI Internet. The specialty of eSpider Squad is giving small and mid-sized businesses the tools they need to most effectively design and use their company website. By linking local businesses with professional designers and developers employed and listed by the franchisor, an eSpider Squad franchisee helps his clients and builds a better name for himself without actually having to do the work of design himself. WSI Internet works in a similar vein, helping local businesses solve internet-related problems and maximize the effectiveness of their websites. What’s most impressive about them, though, is that they have been rated the #1 technology and internet franchise for 7 straight years by Entrepreneur Magazine. Each of these franchises is a cut above the rest in the technology service industry.

Not all computer problems that require the help of a trained and talented technician occur in the office, however; many times, the issues arise in the home. Granted, much of that is because the average American with a computer doesn’t actually know how it works, but that reality doesn’t change the fact that help is needed, and Fast-teks is just the franchise business to own if helping out average people is what you’re serious about as a techie. With Fast-teks, the respect has already been earned by scores of other franchise locations across the country who are already connecting local clients with trained technicians, who can come to their homes to make their PCs hum and sing again, the way they used to when they were brand new. It’s a profitable and rewarding business, just waiting for more qualified techie-entrepreneurs to join in.

But what if you could build a small business that stops computer failures before they start? Though it may sound like a cheap time-travel movie, there is a tech business that does just that: CompuChild. This franchise is the juncture between tech-support and teaching, providing daycare centers and preschools with on-location computer education for preschool-aged kids. By either managing other teachers in their employ or doing the hands-on work with the children themselves, franchisees with this small business are educating children in how to use a tool that they will inevitably use for the rest of their lives, which will hopefully give them an upper hand in school and business later on down the line.

Whether your strong suit is hardware, website design, or teaching, there is a franchise just right to fit the service you can provide. And the best part about running a tech franchise is that you don’t have to know everything about the field to succeed. Though extra knowledge never hurts, franchisors can always train you in whatever you need, so if you have the desire to run a tech business, but doubt your credentials, go ahead and give it a go anyway with one of these techie franchises.
